Technical Sump – Series F

Description

This technical sump features three main filtration functions:

• Mechanical filtration of particulate waste is handled by an integrated Turtle System automatic roller filter. It operates autonomously with minimal maintenance and quickly removes waste from the system before it has a chance to decompose.
• This filter flows into a first “constant level” compartment, where the water height is adjustable via a movable wall. It’s the ideal spot for optimal operation of a protein skimmer. This compartment can also house devices like a fluidized bed filter or a calcium reactor.
• A second “return” compartment is designed to accommodate a circulation pump to return the filtered water to your aquarium.

Like all Turtle System sumps, this one includes a range of convenient accessories to ensure a neat and user-friendly setup:

• Water inlet and outlet via pressure PVC union fittings (customizable diameter)
• Rigid removable tubing for connecting dosing pumps (customizable number)
• Support for one or two heating elements (optional)
• Probe holder on the movable wall to ensure optimal height and positioning for accurate readings (customizable number)
• Cable cutouts on the rear brace of the sump
• Transparent lids covering the entire sump with optional custom cutouts for your equipment

With fully customizable dimensions, this custom-made sump is adaptable to your technical setup and installation constraints. Base dimensions can be selected: width from 40 to 150 cm, depth from 40 to 90 cm (vertical reinforcements may be added for large sumps). The height is fixed at 38 cm. The width of the return compartment is also customizable, with a minimum of 12 cm.

The Turtle System automatic roller filter is sized according to the sump width:

• Sump width less than 50 cm: 15 cm roller, max flow 7,500 l/h
• Sump width 51–60 cm: 22 cm roller, max flow 11,000 l/h
• Sump width 61–75 cm: 30 cm roller, max flow 15,000 l/h
• Sump width over 76 cm: 38 cm roller, max flow 19,000 l/h

The filter operates fully automatically. As the filter media becomes clogged, the water level rises inside the filter and activates an adjustable level sensor. This triggers the winding of the used roll and refreshes the media for a new cycle. The roll has a long lifespan (averaging 6 months depending on waste production in the aquarium) and is easy to replace without removing the entire filter from the sump.

This sump and its roller filter are entirely made from 8 mm thick high-quality cast PMMA, welded together for extreme durability—far superior to glued glass. The material is also lighter, easier to handle, and offers excellent resistance to accidental impacts.

The front panel is fully transparent PMMA to provide maximum visibility inside the sump. Other panels are made from black or white opaque PMMA, protecting from light potentially emitted by a nearby refugium or frag tank.

Removable transparent plastic lids maintain visibility while limiting evaporation.

Cable cutouts allow for tidy electrical installations without hindering lid closure and ensure organized cables that stay in place when opening the lids.
